Research and Development SupportSBAR's team member, Oceaneering International, Inc. (OII), provides Engineering and Technical Support Services to NUWCDIVNPT Code 41 in support of Existing and Future Submarine and Surface Launcher Systems programs and Facilities Support Services respectively. OII assists NUWC with Research and Development (R&D) projects, programs, and experiments such as experimental launchers, SSN 688 class muzzle door linkage failure analysis and testing, Advanced High Speed Underwater Munitions (AHSUM), and 3-inch launcher program upgrades within the facilities at NUWC. At present, OII is providing engineering and technical support to prepare a MK 67 torpedo tube for shock testing scheduled for later this year. In addition to providing R&D support at the lab at NUWCDIVNPT, OII provides support to R&D programs at various remote facilities, such as SSN 774 class weapon stowage cradle shock testing at the High-Test facilities in Arvonia, VA. OII has supported the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division (NSWC/CD) in performing Gap Analysis for areas of technical risk in the Automated Paint Application, Containment, and Treatment (APACTS) program. At the conclusion of the R&D efforts, advanced technologies were demonstrated, evaluated and assessed. Technology advances included improvements in the containment system design, the ability to control the resulting effluent stream, the environmental conditions and residual waste associated with the treatment system, and the automation related to spray dynamics, which is the ability to coordinate the motion of the containment/spray module with the mobile vehicle and robotic arm. The research and development of these subsystem components lead the technical directions for the design and production of the prototype system. |
