Prototyping, Pre-Production, Model-Making, and Fabrication Support

Under the contracts N66604-01-D-0013 and N66604-01-D-1285, SBAR's team member, Oceaneering International, Inc. (OII), assists NUWCDIVNPT with the design, fabrication, demonstration, installation, operation, evaluation and modification of prototype systems and components. These efforts include making modifications to existing components and or systems, the construction and operation of new facilities for R&D projects, and testing operational systems and prototype changes thereto.

OII designed, built, factory tested and mobilized a Pre-Production APACTS Prototype to a Naval Submarine Base to perform a demonstration and validation on a U.S. Navy submarine. The equipment was setup and operated in dry-dock on the selected vessel. All functional components and subsystems were tested and evaluated while painting and operating. Engineers and Technicians supported the testing, evaluation and training of shipyard workers.

Lessons learned from the fabrication, shipping, human factors, and shipyard testing of this pre-production prototype have been incorporated back into the production system design. Prior to the shipyard test, working with NSWCCD and shipyard personnel a test logistics, safety, and rigging plan was developed to ensure a safe and successful demonstration and validation of the Pre-Production APACTS prototype.

OII takes advantage of its in-house manufacturing capability to support prototyping. In the continental U.S., OII has over 75,000 sq ft of machine and fabrication shop area. It has an additional 200,000 sq ft of assembly area to assemble mechanical, hydraulic, electronic and optic systems.
