Reliability, Maintainability, and Availability (RM&A) Support MCA Engineers, currently an operating division of SBAR, instituted a Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) program on their Air Force Launch Operations and Support Contract (LO&SC) at Vandenberg AFB. This program was implemented to increase the reliability of launch facilities and support equipment while reducing costs and preventive maintenance requirements. They installed condition-monitoring instrumentation on equipment and used the resulting data to create a database used for trend analysis and failure prediction. Over the first year of operation, the RCM program produced a 25% reduction in trouble calls and a significant decrease in maintenance costs.
