Human Factors Engineering SupportAll engineering support provided for the ASDS over the past three years has considered human factors engineering. OII personnel participated in Human Factors/Ergonomics evaluation of all elements of the ASDS design. SBAR's team member, Oceaneering International, Inc. (OII), has applied engineering and analytical disciplines to ensure the Submarine Rescue System (SRS) and its various elements were designed with Human Factors as a primary concern. The SRS is a complex life-critical system, which includes extensive operator interfaces, life support systems and considerations for human occupancy. Analyses were generated for each element to confirm that placement and configuration of operator interfaces, such as valves, gauges and monitors, met the required military standards for human factors. Provisions to access equipment for service, maintenance and repair were determined through human factors analysis. Environmental control (temperature/humidity), oxygen consumption rates and carbon dioxide production rates were critical design drivers for most elements, requiring extensive thermodynamic, flow and gas analysis. |
